About

Hi. This is the place to learn more about my upcoming projects in the performing arts and other related industries.  I will be sharing updates on new works in progress, and other creative work that I am doing, and anything fun I am involved in.

If you are curious you will find a curated list of past creative works, and a little bit about the process, how it was created, and how much fun we had creating it.

Below is a more formal bio – you might like that – just to put into context who I am.  There’s always more to the story, but that is not unique to me!

BIO….

I received the Graduate Diploma of  Dramatic Art in Directing at NIDA (1995) and the Extension Certificate in Screen writing at AFTRS (1994), and I also have a BA HONS in Visual Arts and Philosophy from Monash University (1993), and before that I completed the RMIT Certificate in Professional Writing.  (Lots of Quals!)   While at Uni I cut my teeth in theatre by writing and directing for La Mama, and performing in experimental and fringe theatre companies. I also training in the Lecoq method over a couple of years.

Professional highlights include directing RAGGS for television, (Southern star and Chanel 7),  receiving Australian Film Commission funding for the film version of Conversations Between Lovers, and receiving an Honorary Mention for directing of Sunday in the Park With Frank, for the 2007 Short & Sweet festival.

I love to mix it up, so I have also directed operas, and I am very proud of THREE WOMEN (Plath/Legge-Wilkinson) for the Canberra New Music Ensemble and LAWRENCE HARGRAVE FLYING ALONE (Nigel Butterley) for the Sydney Symphony, as well as being a trainee director on SUNSET BOULEVARD with The Really Useful Company.   There has also been some great new work such as Jane Bradhurst’s new Australian musical, SUMMERTIME, Mirra Todd’s award winning script, STRONG AS BLOOD, as well as PUT A METAL HAT ON YOUR HEAD for the Canberra New Music Ensemble.

There has been a lot of theatre, in different venues, such as THE CRUCIBLE, PLAYING WITH FIRE, ELEGY FOR A LADY, IN ABSENTIA, and HER ESCAPADE.  I love developing TIE (Theatre in Education) shows, WHAT’S THE USE OF WORRYING and LOOKING UP, both shows I am proud of that toured for several years Nationally.  I finally got to direct a Shakespheare, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, produced by Farrell’s Limestone Creek winery in the Hunter Valley, and I feel I should mention my GUCCI RUSH launch for Trimex Australia, which featured compelling improvisations by actors  at the Kirkton Hotel in Sydney.

Writing highlights include my second play, In Absentia being represented in the ’99 collections, (the Australian Script Centre).  Other writing credits include, LOOKING UP (TIE), DESSERT (short film), and CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN LOVERS (unproduced screenplay).

My directing method is process oriented and strictly centered around the creative collaboration of myself and the actor as artists.  The method is derived from her Lecoq training, and my early directing experiences such as HER ESCAPADE and EARLY ONE MORNING, which were scripted following intense improvisation workshops with the actors.

I love to play the script editor and some highlights include ‘Journey to Horseshoe Bend’, by Gordon Williams for the Sydney Symphony.  I have been an official reader for the Australian Script centre, and the Australian National Playwrights Centre  for 8 years, amongst many other projects. I taught screen acting at NIDA, the Actors Centre Australia, and ACCT for over ten years when located in Sydney, Australia.
